DC Bocce is a great way to meet that special someone. It could be for one night, one year, or forever.
Check out these pictures and stories about couples who met playing bocce, and have tied the knot.
Melissa & Scott
Melissa & Scott (along with their teams) were bocce buddies since their first game back in the Summer of 2007, but didn't start dating until Summer season '09.
While they always knew they enjoyed each others company (at least they did Wednesday nights at the Pour House) they quickly realized that they shared the same sense of humor and quirky personality. Over the years they eventually merged bocce teams and decided they should make things official, tying the knot September 2, 2012.
Anne & Rich
Two words: Chuck Norris. Believe it or not, Chuck Norris was on Anne's bocce team. Chuck Norris also happened to go to college with Rich. For this, we raise a glass to Mr. Norris for being their common connection.
Rich and Anne met in passing at a holiday party in 2008. Then they promptly forgot about each other. In early spring 2009, Anne left her beloved bocce team to create another bocce team. Rich was called in to fill her spot on the original team, or that's how Anne sees that bit of history. Rich thought Anne was adorable and fun. Anne thought Rich was handsome but quiet. After two months of something resembling flirting, Rich finally asked Anne out. Their first date was on Rich's birthday because people need as much pressure as possible on a first date. And here they are today.
Nancy & Ken
Nancy and Ken met playing in the Capitol Hill Wednesday division during the Spring 2008 Season. During the captains meeting Nancy became friends with the captain of Ken's team.
Catching up with her friend after the games at the PourHouse, was also a convenient way to hang out with the cute Southern boy, Ken, she had also met.
After numerous games of flip cup, Big Buck Hunter, $5.00 burgers and late nights at the Pour House, they knew that we had found "that someone special" in each other.
Meeting up on Wednesday Bocce nights turned into dates on Friday and Saturday nights. They continued to date, and play bocce the following Spring and Summer Bocce, on their respective teams.
Ken and Nancy got married in the fall of 2010.
Katie & Kevin
Katie and Kevin met when their teams played against one another in the spring 2010 season.
Kevin's team was undefeated until that match, but he blames the loss on being distracted by Katie's beauty and the fact that, as a die-hard Cowboys fan, he was falling for an Eagles fan. Katie was just glad she didn't know about Kevin's Cowboys allegiance until later. The two were married August 20, 2011, and hosted a bocce tournament --on the same courts where they first met-- for guests on the morning of their wedding.
Lauren & Mat
Lauren and Mat signed up to play bocce in the Summer of 2007. Mat signed up to win bocce games. Lauren signed up to hang out with her friends.
They did not meet until the playoff weekend, when both their teams were eliminated early on. The championship weekend includes a picnic, where they met and exchanged a few pleasantries.
After exchanging a number of Facebook messages, they finally had a date about a month later. Which quickly turned into their 2nd, 3rd, etc...and soon became inseperable. They were married in the Summer of 2011.
Karen & Doug
Karen and Doug met on the first day of the 2008 summer bocce season in Garfield Park. They were the first two people from their team to arrive at the park on opening day.
They had mutual friends on the team but did not know each other. A couple of days after meeting, we went on separate vacations and couldn't stop thinking about each other.
On their first date outside of bocce, Doug accepted Karen's "Top Chef-like" challenge by cooking her a three-course meal at his apartment. And the rest is history. The couple just had their first child in October 2011.
Matt & Dani
Matt and Dani met on Capitol Hill in the Spring of 2007. Dani and her friend joined DC Bocce to meet new people.
Dani's freind thought they guy Matt was hanging out with was cute, so the two of them approached Matt and his friend. While the friends played a few games
of flip cup, Matt and Dani sparked up a conversation. They had their first date the next Saturday at Great Falls. The couple married less than a year from when they met and now have two beatuiful children.
